FAQ's

A: All deposits are non-refundable.  Deposits can be used on future sessions if cancelled within required time period.  To cancel or modify a booking in our Standard, Elite and/or Showcase Studios we require 24 hours notice for every hour you have booked. For example, a three hour booking would require 72 hours notice. Recording requires one week’s notice for any cancellations or changes.

A: Standard Hours of Operation are Monday-Friday 10AM-1AM, Saturday and Sunday 12PM-12AM.  Bookings outside of our standard hours are available, but please contact Smash directly.

A: Please call the studio at 212-244-9066 to inquire about rates.

A: Yes, we offer Discounted Solo Rates for same day bookings in our Standard and Elite Studios.

A: Yes!  We offer discounted rates Monday-Friday 10am-5pm on Standard and Elite Studios as well as from 12-12 on weekends.  We do offer additional discounted rates from time to time, but please call 212-244-9066 to ask for more info.

A: 50 Non-performing persons. The stage is also equipped to handle a band of 15-20 musicians.

A: You can park on the streets around Smash for Free after 7pm and all day Sunday. There are a number of parking lots around the studio including a very large lot on 34th Street between 8th and 9th Aves.  Commercial vehicles can park hourly on the street using the Muni-meters at all hours. 

A: Food and Drink are allowed in Studios within reason. We do require that you keep it all off the equipment and clean up after yourself.  Additional charges may apply.

A: No. It is against the law to smoke inside any building in New York City as stated by the Fire Department of New York. Please smoke outside on the street. This includes all vapes and e-cigarettes. Thank you.  Violators may be subject to fines at the studio. 

A: Smash offers guitars, basses, keyboards, and percussion instruments all for rent. Also ask us about wireless mics and inner-ear systems available upon requrest.

A: All rooms offer auxiliary input that can be used for any 3.5mm audio/headphone jack, and our elite and showcase studios are equipped with bluetooth audio for wireless connection to the PA.

A: Our Elite and Showcase Studios offer FREE 2 track room recording to CDR or USB disk. We also offer HD Multi-Track Recording at an additional charge.

A: 307 W 36th St, on the 18th floor. Between 8th and 9th Ave.

A: Yes, we have two available for rent. Studio A has a Yamaha upright, and Showcase 1 has a Steinway O Grand. Sorry, we cannot move these pianos into different rooms.

A: All of our rooms have full backline including a drum kit with hardware and cymbals, an array of vintage and boutique guitar amps, as well as a bass rig, dual-tier keyboard setup and keyboards, microphones and PA all included with your rental. 

STUDIO POLICIES LISTED BELOW – PLEASE READ

1. Deposit Policy: • Recording – 50% • Showcase – 50% • Standard & Elite Rehearsals – $45 Deposit (Which Can Be Left As A Floating Deposit For Future Sessions)
2. ALL DEPOSITS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE and can be used towards your session that you book or for a session in the future.
Please note, that if you would like to use your deposit towards your session you must tell the manager on duty at the point when you are paying that you would like to use your deposit on file. Otherwise, your deposit will be kept as a floating deposit for a future session automatically.
3. Rehearsal/Showcase Cancellations And/Or Changes Policy: One Day’s Notice Is Required For Every Hour Booked. (Example: 4 Hour Booking = 4 Days Advance Notice To Smash).
4. Recording Cancellations And/Or Changes Policy: 1 Week’s Notice Required.
5. Recording Sessions Booked Within The Same Week Are Not Eligible For Cancellation Or Changes.
6. Snow Storm Cancellation Policy: If Mass Transit Is Suspended, Customers Can Reschedule Their Booking, But Not Cancel. Once The Rescheduling Is Made, No Further Changes Can Occur.
7. Clients Are Required To Check And Read Their Confirmation Emails And Inform Us Of Any Discrepancies Immediately.
8. Credit Card Charges Have A 5% Additional Charge. Stated Rate Card Is Cash Discount Price.
9. Rooms Do Not Include: Guitars, Acoustic Pianos, Congas, Additional Microphones, ¼ “ Cable, Additional Keyboards, And Other Items Not Already In Studio When You Arrive. All Are Available For Rent Hourly, Please Ask Manager On Duty for Information.
10. Studios Are Pre-Set With Gear That Comes With That Particular Studio. We Are Not Able To Move Gear From Studio to Studio.
11. Any Repairs Or Replacement Of Equipment Damaged Due To Client Negligence Will Be The Sole Responsibility Of The Client.
12. Large Groups, Parties, And Events Will Have A Surcharge Of At Least 1 Additional Hour For Clean Up At The Studio’s Discretion. Showcase Suites with parties of 20 or more are all assessed a $250 Surcharge.
13. Additional Charges May Apply For The Following: • Tampering Or Changing Sound System Settings • Trash Left In Rooms • Gear Moved Around • Other Issues That May Arise Determined By The Studio
14. All Studios Are Pre-Set For All Sessions. If Clients Move Any Gear (Including Drum Hardware And Cymbals) It Must Be Returned To Original Set Up Or Charges Will Be Incurred.
15. Unauthorized Removal Of Smash Studio Property Will Be Prosecuted To The Full Extent Of The Law.
16. NO SMOKING ANYWHERE On Premises As Required By The New York City Fire Department.
