ABOUT SMASH

First launched in 1989, Smash Studios empowers artists to not only perform at the highest quality, but to also record, rehearse, showcase, shoot, and so much more. Originally located on West 22nd Street in the heart of Chelsea, in 2001 Smash Studios re-located and expanded to 307 West 36th Street (its present location) on the 18th floor. In 2019, Smash Studios expanded once again to the 17th floor of 307 West 36th Street with a floor solely dedicated to Production with the original 18th floor studios now dedicated to performance. As Smash Studios has expanded and evolved it consistently lives up to its moniker, enabling the entertainment industries to make Smash Hits.
With over 30 years of services offered to the entertainment industries, Smash Studios is one of the largest performance and production studios on the East Coast. Spanning 14,000 square feet, the performance and production facilities consist of twenty-one studios, including:

  • Two (2) professional Control Rooms
  • One (1) Live Room Studio on the 17th floor
  • One (1) outstanding Podcast Studio For Audio and Video Production
  • Four (4) premier Production Suites for Long Term Rental
  • Three (3) expansive “Showcase Suites”
  • Four (4) premier “Elite Studios”
  • Four (4) comprehensive “Standard Studios”
  • Two (2) Private Teaching Studios

Production Studios feature state of the art and “sought-after” vintage equipment. Performance Studios are outfitted with professional backlines, elements of which are comprised of product from endorsers like Hartke, Neumann, Sabian, Sennheiser, Yamaha, and Sling Studios, among others.

In early the early 2000s, Smash Studios started offering equipment rentals from its fully stocked rental equipment department. The Smash brand expanded in 2016 with the successful creation of a Video Production arm offering full Video and Film Production Services, and in 2018 an educational division was launched with The Smash Music Academy. The entire facility has recently gotten a facelift with a full renovation of the studios in 2018 plus the addition in 2019 of the 8 new studios on the Production Floor. Smash Studios also is proud of its passionate and professional staff, made up of musicians, engineers, and multi-platinum producers who are always ready to assist our clients.

Over the years, Smash has been featured on TV shows including MTV’s Making the Band and other prime-time productions. The Village Voice voted it “Best Studio in New York” and Mix Magazine has dubbed it, “Best of the East”. Close enough to be in Madison Square Garden’s shadow, Smash remains New York City’s epicenter for entertainment pre and post-production with a focus on music and is regularly utilized by GRAMMY® Award-winning multiplatinum superstars such as Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, John Legend, Miley Cyrus, P!nk, John Mayer, The Weeknd, A$AP Rocky, and many more.

In every way, Smash Studios has focused its intent for over three decades, which as Founder and Owner Clay Sheff affirms: “Our goals have never changed, it all comes down to helping facilitate clients’ ability to bring their creative visions to life, hone their performances skills, and most of all achieve success.”
